The House at Hill Lane
43 Hill Lane is an award winning architect-designed eco house completed in 2015, owned and built by theatre director Joe Harmston and textile artist Polly Meynell. The house is situated in an acre of landscaped garden in a quiet country lane with uninterrupted views to the south. Originally a land settlement agency smallholding; this acre of land was painstakingly nurtured from a tangle of derelict buildings and brambles into a scenic garden, and a contemporary home.

It has various lovely bedrooms, and an enormous ground floor living space including several different sitting areas, where guests could no doubt have privacy if they wanted to; it nonetheless feels cosy and very welcoming. It also has a beautiful garden and a great view, with interesting walks around.Polly and Joe are perfect hosts. 'We can’t even begin to thank you for making the whole evening just perfect. Delicious foods, incredible decorations and with a table full of flowers - it was all a feast for the eye. The House at Hill Lane is the perfect blend of architecture and landscape together with the wonderful family that looked after us, it was the best possible place for us all to meet up and enjoy and relax. Thank you so very much for everything from homemade fare to delicious cocktails and wines and for so much more.'

'I attended a retreat at The House on Hill Lane and it’s difficult to put into words how incredible this house is. It’s beautiful both inside and out and once you learn about its self-sustaining features you realise it’s almost certainly a glimpse into the future of all Western house-building. Meanwhile Polly and Joe are the most perfect hosts - warm, welcoming and funny combined with the best cooks you could hope to encounter. Couldn’t recommend more highly.'

Contact us
The House at Hill lane team is totally committed to ensuring that you enjoy your stay and will leave here wanting to return.
We believe that the highest level of customer care, friendly personal service and the highest quality products, are the least that our guests deserve. We support local suppliers wherever possible. Our organic free range eggs and meat are all produced locally and much of our fruit and vegetables come from our own garden or from local farms. Where we do use imported products we choose Fair Trade brands whenever available.
We are also keen to protect our environment and are careful about the products we buy to run our business. We aim to reduce waste by re-cycling and re-using wherever possible. We do have two resident cats who dutifully keep local pests under control and also parade about as if they own the place.
Whether you come to us for a relaxing break, a business trip, or a theatre visit, we guarantee we will do our utmost to ensure that you have a great experience.
